Frequently Asked Questions
About Hypnotherapy
What does hypnotherapy feel like?
Hypnotherapy is a deeply relaxing, pleasant experience. Most people describe it as a state of focused attention accompanied by profound physical and mental relaxation—very similar to daydreaming or that peaceful feeling right before you fall asleep. You remain completely in control throughout the session.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes, almost anyone can experience hypnosis, provided they want to be hypnotised and are willing to engage with the process. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that you already experience every day, such as when you get deeply absorbed in a good book, watch a movie, or drive a familiar route on autopilot.
Will I lose control or say things I don’t want to?
No, absolutely not. A common misconception stems from stage hypnosis shows, which are purely for entertainment. In a clinical hypnotherapy session, you cannot be made to do or say anything against your will, your morals, or your personal values. You are fully aware of where you are and what is happening the entire time.
How many sessions will I need?
Because everyone's mind and goals are completely unique, the number of sessions varies. However, hypnotherapy is widely recognized as a brief, solution-focused therapy. Simple phobias or confidence issues might take anywhere from 2 to 4 sessions, while deep-seated stress or long-term habits may take a few more. We will discuss an initial plan during your consultation.
What is the difference between online and in-person sessions?
Both options are equally effective.
- In-Person: You can enjoy the calm, dedicated therapeutic space at my practice located at 21 Hamilton Street, Saltcoats.
- Online: You can experience the exact same professional care from the comfort and security of your own home via a secure video call. All you need is a reliable internet connection and a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed.
Are your sessions confidential?
Yes, completely. As a Registered Member of the National Hypnotherapy Society, I operate under a strict professional code of ethics. Everything you share during our consultations and therapy sessions is treated with the highest degree of privacy and professional confidentiality.
